*A lighter load of workshops so you don't feel exhausted before social
dancing at night
*More time to hangout & socialize during the weekend
*An exciting theme (masquerade ball) on Saturday night to change the
dynamic
*Mixing up casual with elegant dress
*Just enough shows to keep you entertained
What's
a Winter Salsa Carnival?
When
the real Italian Carnival first began in the 1500’s, it was
celebrated from December 26 and reached its climax the day before
Ash Wednesday, also known as "Mardi Gras" (lit.Fat Tuesday).
During the period of Carnival, people wore masks and could go incognito
as they danced, sang and played games in the cobblestone streets and
narrow alleyways of Venice, including Piazza San Marco. The mask wearing
immediately dissolved social division, creating an atmosphere of ‘anything
is possible’… luring everyone into permissible excess…
Recently revived in the 80’s, Carnival is known to create intrigue
and mystery… by wearing masks and costumes representing different
characters. (Pictures and ideas for characters coming soon!) Salsa
and carnival go well together as they are both about allowing pleasure,
music and movement to guide the senses.
A
Winter Salsa Carnival brings together professional instructors and
performers, amateurs, intermediate and advanced social salsa dancers
of all nationalities, who congregate to showcase their talent, learn
new moves in workshops, and have fun on the dance floor. Get into
the spirit of Carnival March 21st-23rd, 2008!
It's going to be a BLAST!!!
