Winter can get gloomy. This is something we all understand as Canadians regardless of whether we live in Vancouver lofts, Toronto condos, or a cottage in the Arctic. There's a lot of shoveling to do and it's freezing out most of the time. There are some fun winter activities, such as snowshoeing or attending a winter festival, that you can do during the snowy months, but most of us prefer indoor fun during this time. One of our favorite winter activities is to go see some live theater.
You have a lot more options in terms of going to see live theater in the wintertime for several reasons. Firstly, theater directors recognize that during the winter a lot more people are looking for a way to have fun indoors and get away from their jobs at the destrapping factory. Secondly, the kids are in school and most people are at work, so there's more people sticking around in the city to act and go to see plays instead of heading out to the cottage on the weekends.
If you live in Toronto, and work at Wedding Catering Toronto, you have the most selection in terms of live theater than anywhere else in Canada. Toronto is Canada's entertainment capitol, and there are more theaters in that city than anywhere else. You can check out the city of Toronto's website or keep an eye on the posting boards outside your favorite theater to see what shows are coming up this winter. It will likely be a mixture of classics (such as Shakespeare) with brand new shows put on by local playwrights.
Live theater tickets can be expensive, especially if you want to see one of the traveling Broadway shows that so often come to Toronto. If you haven't been lucky enough to win a car and a large pile of money, try getting your tickets on the day of the show from the last chance ticket booth in Young Eglington square. Alternatively, you can choose a show that is of a lower profile, such as a community theater or school production. There are hundreds of these in the city.
For those who really love live theater, there's always the option of participation. You have only the smallest chance of getting on the cast of a Broadway show, and only then if you have a lot of singing, dancing, and acting training. But if you're interested in participating in community theater, you can do so while also running your nursery supply business. All you have to do is sign up.
