There are some skills that you can teach yourself. You can learn scrapbooking from a book, muddle through your own car repairs instead of taking it to a Toronto auto body shop, or install flooring yourself by consulting the package instructions. One thing it is difficult to impossible to teach yourself is dancing. Dancing requires such minute control over your body that you can't learn it from a book or a video. You need a real instructor to guide you. If you want to learn to dance, here are some studios in Toronto that are offering lessons.
Joy of Dance
If you're not sure what kind of dancing you would like to take up or if you're unable to commit to attending a lesson at the same time each week, the Joy of Dance studio is ideal because you can just hop out of a Toronto taxi some day and jump right in. You can learn jazz, ballroom, salsa, hip hop, or even Zumba this way. There are regular lessons for adults, teens, and children, and if you're too shy to join in with a group you can always arrange for your own private dance lessons.
City Dance Corps
Ever thought about learning to break dance? Well now's your chance. Toronto's City Dance Corps offers lessons. They also have classes in salsa, tango, hip hop, contemporary, house, jazz, tap, and ballet. For a mere $40 you can drop in on as many lessons as you like for two weeks. There's even a special series of lessons sure to draw you out of your Forest Hill homes: the Hollywood dance series, where you can learn famous film and music video dances like Michael Jackson's Thriller!
OIP Dance Center
OIP, or Ontario Immigrant Productions, Dance Center bills itself as the best in Toronto. Their mission is to help young people make their mark on Canadian professional dance, but they still are able to teach beginners who know more about mortgages in Toronto than dance steps. They have beginner, intermediate, and advanced class levels in modern styles such as hip hop, break dance, jazz, and house. If you get good enough, you can even try out for their in-house dance company.
Toronto Dance
If you're just learning, Toronto Dance is a great choice, as their focus is on helping and encouraging beginners. You can learn a variety of different dance styles, such as latin, ballroom, salsa, meringue, swing, tap, and even Bollywood! Most of their students are adults and plenty are learning to dance for their weddings. It's convenient to your downtown Toronto real estate and it's a great idea for a fun night out with a date or your friends.
