Canada gets dumped on a lot. Mainly for the cold weather we have to endure all year round. Ask anyone who lives here, whether they live in a Bloor Street neighbourhood - 35 Hayden St. unit or a Thunder Bay house and they will gladly vent their displeasures about the Canadian weather. It's not just that our winters can be extremely cold. It's also that are summers aren't really that long. We can handle the long winters if it meant getting to soak in the sunshine for more than 2 or 3 months.
No one enjoys walking to and from work or their English language school Canada classes in snow all the time. However, instead of complaining of how cold and snowy our winters are, how about praising what we do have? Or what we can do during the winter? One of the great things about living in Canada can actually be the winters that we have. Sure we just spent some time bashing the cold winter Canada offers but that doesn't mean we can't turn a negative into a positive.
Instead of focusing on how cold it is, how about we focus on the winter activities we can do in the cold? There are a lot of winter activities one can participate in Canada during the winter. Sure, you can't go to an equestrian London Ontario club and go horse riding but you can go out and take a long walk in the snow. Have you ever walked at night and looked at snowflakes underneath streetlights? It's one of the most heart warming things you can see.
Of course, Canada is all about hockey. Which means you can lace up the skates and play some ice hockey. Or go really old school with your friends and play some road hockey in front of your Niagara Falls decks. If hockey isn't your thing but you like skating then you can go figure skating.
There are a lot of ski hills and mountains located all throughout Canada which means you can take in some skiing or snowboarding. Depending on how adventurous you are. You can also go out tobogganing, take a ride on your snowmobile or ATV or even go up a hill and go sledding. There are just so many winter activities you can do in Canada. So take out those electric cutters, cut the rope off your sleds and find the nearest mountaintop and go for a sled ride down it. You are sure to have the time of your life and forget all about how cold it is. That is until you get a snowball in the face. Which is pretty likely in Canada during the winter. Have fun and be safe! |
